Cleaning out my Closet
I own too much stuff. Like an aggressive amount of stuff. In preparation for my upcoming move, I have decided I need to let things go and live a slightly more simple life. This brings me to cleaning out my closet. LOL
I literally have high heel shoes from college that have not touched my foot EVER. I want them to go to a good home where I know someone wants them, rather than donating them and then they end up in the trash…
MY GAME PLAN
I am going to start by making adding a few listings on Poshmark and see what sort of traction I can make.
WHAT IS POSHMARK?
I think most people know what it is at this point but just in case, Poshmark is “a leading social marketplace for new and secondhand style for women, men, kids, pets, home, and more.”
All I need to do is snap the photos of the items, add the descriptions and item info and then wait for the sale. Once an item is purchased - No stamps, no hassle - Poshmark provides you with a label to put on a box for shipping and all I need to do is get it to the post office. When the delivery is complete, I received a payment.
TIP: Order boxes and envelopes from the USPS to allow you to pack your orders faster!
I have more than enough shoes and clothes I can no longer fit or have never worn. Not only do I get to declutter my house but also make some money in the process.
TIP: Keep an inventory of 30-50 at a time to make managing the inventory easier.
Any items on my Poshmark that do not sell by the time I am ready to move will be sent to thredUp to handle finding them a new home.
HOW IS THREDUP DIFFERENT THAN POSHMARK?
Well for starters, at thredUp, you request a cleanup kit and once it is received, you just send your items in. thredUp handles the listing, photos, descriptions etc. for all eligible items and sends you a commission once an item is purchased. Anything not eligible for sell, is not returned to you and they handle disposal of the items accordingly.
Even better, they have a donation program that allows me to support my favorite charities if I do not want the monetary gain for my cleanout kit!
DONATING TO LOCAL CHARITIES
There is no shortage of places and people in need, especially women’s shelters and homeless shelters assisting with job placements for those who need it. Business apparel and footwear will be set aside specifically to be donated to these organizations.
